Karen Wernli teaches reading intervention. A mother of three, she spent years volunteering in her children’s schools and for nonprofit organizations in her community before deciding at age fifty to earn her college degree. Originally from Washington state, she has lived in Florida since 2011. Her favorite activities include spending time with her children and grandchildren, swimming at the beach, reading, and playing tennis and volleyball.

Chiara Civati is a freelance children’s illustrator based in Lake Como, Italy. She studied fashion and textile design as well as visual design and illustration. When she’s not busy illustrating, she spends her time traveling the world with a backpack full of books on her shoulders or hiking with her dog.
