Author Bio
Recognizing his early aptitude for art, Phil Sanduskyís parents placed him under the study of academic painter Marjorie Edwards, who taught him a sense of aesthetics, the importance of keen observation, and a love of paint. Although his life would take him in different directions--including an engineering career--he always returned to his first love: art. He spent the first twenty years of his life in Jacksonville, Florida, where he began formal art training at the age of sixteen. While attending Jacksonville University, he worked toward a physics major and earned his B.A. In addition to these studies, he spent several summers enhancing his talent in the field of art, studying in Madison, Connecticut, and at the Art Studentís League in New York. After graduating from Jacksonville University, he worked on offshore drilling rigs out of Lafayette, Louisiana, with Schlumberger Well Services. After four years, he was promoted and transferred to an office job at Schlumbergerís New Orleans location. Falling in love with the cityís rich landscape and architecture, he began to immerse himself in painting once again. The culture of his new home inspired New Orleans en Plein Air, a book that not only reveals beautiful representations of the Crescent City, but also includes the authorís own perspectives on the artistic journey. Sandusky held his first solo exhibit in 1988 at the Academy Gallery and has since had a total of twenty-three solo exhibits in New Orleans and across the country. He has published several articles in American Artist , and he now pursues art full time, serving as instructor of landscape and life painting at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts. He resides in New Orleans with his wife, Michele.
