Elton M. Garrett aptly described the city in the masthead of his newspaper, the Boulder Dam Challenge, in 1936: "Boulder City Carries On With Spirit With Which Boulder Dam Challenged Rio Colorado."

Cheryl Ferrence has lived in Boulder City for the past 34 years. She has managed a newspaper office and a motel, worked in real estate sales, and was the executive director of the chamber of commerce. Most recently, she has served on the board of the Boulder City Museum and Historical Association as president and director. For this book, she has drawn images, many of them never before published, from the Boulder City Museum archives.
