Title: New book explores Latino history in Rochester

Author: Julio Saenz

Publisher: Democrat and Chronicle

Date: 6/12/2011

The 2010 census shows that Latino population here, like in the rest of the country, is growing.

In Rochester's Latino Community, in the Images of America series by Arcadia Publishing, explores the rich history here. In a book that tells history as much through photos as text, Julio Saenz traces Puerto Rican history in Rochester to people like Domingo Delgado, recruited by Eastman Kodak Co. in the 1890s.

In the 1940s, the population started taking hold as many migrant workers began coming to the region. Many of today's cultural, religious and political structures of the Latino community took hold in the 1960s.

But in the end, the story of Latino immigration and history is about the families, and that story is told in both English and Spanish.
