Zatarga grew up surrounded by history in New York's Hudson Valley, resulting in a career in the history field, working with the National Park Service at Guilford Courthouse NMP in Greensboro, North Carolina, and Fort Raleigh NHS in Manteo. He was the living history coordinator for the 150th anniversary commemoration of the Civil War on the Outer Banks: Flags Over Hatters event. He lives on Roanoke Island with his wife and three children.
