He has written numerous works on Revolutionary War and New Jersey history, including Revolutionary New Jersey: Forgotten Crossroads and Towns of the American Revolution, Searching for Yankee Doodle: Washington's Soldier's in the American Revolution and The Forgotten Revolution. Mayers is an active member of numerous historical societies and a frequent speaker and contributor to various publications. He served as a combat officer in both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps.
