Author John Caknipe Jr. is a third-generation Mecklenburg County resident. His extended family members were some of the earliest pioneers to the area and, since the early 1800s, have participated honorably in every military need, from the Civil War to the present. As local merchants and farmers, Caknipe and his wife have invested their lives in Mecklenburg County. They have a son and a daughter.
