Author Bio
Rockingham County is the oldest settled region of New Hampshire. Incorporated as one of five original counties in the state in 1771, its history dates back to 1623 when David Thomson and a small group of colonists established a settlement at Pannaway along the coast of present-day Rye. From New Castle, where the Piscataqua River meets the Atlantic, to Northwood near the edge of the Lakes Region, this fascinating collection includes many rare and previously unpublished photographs and postcards which document over a century of change. Collected in this visual history are images of familiar landmarks, people and places in an area where today modern developments and untouched countryside stand side by side. In a tour into the past over the rolling hills of Fremont to the bustling activity of Hampton; across the rugged terrain of Deerfield to the quiet serenity of Atkinson, this selection brings to life the heritage of an independent people.
