Hy Dahlka was the first village president and a pioneer in wildlife conservation, founding the Michigan United Conservation Club (MUCC), the Waterfowl Festival at the Pointe Mouillee State Game Area, and the Monroe Rod and Gun Club.

The Gibraltar Historical Museum, founded in 2008, holds many photographs and records of the city's history. With help from many longtime residents of Gibraltar and Dorothy Wood, the museum's steward, the museum is able to present the history of Gibraltar.
