Robert W. Sands Jr. and Barbara L. Turner wanted their book about Woodbury to be more than merely a nostalgic photo album. They succeeded: Woodbury (Arcadia Publishing, $19.99) is as informative as it is entertaining. The co-authors did lots of legwork to come up with caption information for the book's 236 photographs, and it paid off.

The operator at FD Cabin, sandwiched between the busy Peach Creek yard and the passenger station in Logan, is preparing to "hand up" the orders, tied in a bundle and anchored temporarily in a Y-shaped wooden hoop.

In spite of the fact that the treasure rumored to be buried beneath the amphitheater probably doesn’t exist, Monte Ne is always an interesting topic. Working in area museums for 24 years, Allyn Lord knows that Monte Ne can draw a crowd. She’s hoping it can also sell a book. “ Historic Monte Ne, ” published by Arcadia Publishing, was written by Lord and the Rogers Historical Museum. It will soon be available at area bookstores and at both the Rogers Historical Museum and the Shiloh Museum in Springdale.

ROGERS — Many of the area’s newest residents don’t realize that a significant piece of history is submerged beneath the surface of Beaver Lake’s waters, said Allyn Lord, director of the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History in Springdale. When the waters recede, remnants of an amphitheater become visible, and people get curious. “ Every so often, when the water gets very low, people see things and they have no idea what they are looking at, ” Lord said.
